Join us in Praying for the Ministry in NYC

By this time in NYC, we have had conversations about all the happenings in our country.  Although we have tried to steer clear from politics, the subject has come up.  We have purposefully pursued the thoughts and impressions folks have on the tragedies that have plagued us in Dallas and Orlando in the recent past.

Many may conclude the way you deal with your enemies is to defeat them.  We have seen weapons in the form of guns and hacking devices in the news.  In today’s prayer emphasis, we are praying for an entirely different mentality.  It takes a great deal of trust that God is on His throne to be able to fight with spiritual weapons.

Lord please show ________ that the weapons we fight with are not of this world but are very mighty (2 Cor. 10:3-5). In Jesus name, Amen.

The real world is the spiritual world, the world where Jesus sits in authority.

Great Stuff in NYC TODAY

Words, Video and Pictures!

These men are jumping walls and getting to the place where living for God is not a just a program but a lifestyle.  We are learning that this is not just for a week of ministry in NYC, but we are preparing for a lifetime of service and Kingdom building.  It is our prayer that we can be equipped to Make Disciples that Make Disciples.

Jeff King Shares About His Day

From their own perspectives…

Chris Faulkner

Today was a great day of breaking down barriers, pushing boundaries, and making myself comfortable by getting outside my comfort zone. I’m at ease making conversation; it’s literally my job. Transitioning to a spiritual topic and sharing the gospel can be uncomfortable, but practice makes it natural. Three more days of practice should make this first nature.

Today we had the privilege of serving God by evangelizing in Central Park. We met people that were answers to our prayers and receptive to our conversations. With God’s guidance, we initiated and engaged with strangers in ways we never would have had the courage to before. We look forward to tomorrow’s opportunities to serve and strengthen the spirit.

Saturday was all about breaking down barriers; those of fear, of embarrassment, of “not being qualified.” It was a day of putting into practice all that we had been building toward these last months. It was a day to let the Spirit move through us reaching those in Central Park, as we engaged in conversation and handed water bottles to those in need. Scott and I had the amazing opportunity to speak to several people from Germany visiting here in NYC. The Holy Spirit even blessed me with the chance to share my testimony of how Jesus guided me through depression into a realization of what it truly meant to live a life for Him; and one of the guys we met was shocked that this affected me this way! I was able to continue in a spiritual discussion with this man, and even though He didn’t want to listen much after that, what an honor it was to be used by my Lord to make His name praised! May all my interactions be used as such!

Time Management!  How we use our time is as spiritual a decision as how we use our money.  Someone once said, “time is money!”  If that is true then time stewardship is incredibly important.

You can’t pay the rent, if you’re stuck in traffic, you can’t find a job, if you’re working too much—it’s all enough to make anyone want to scream. Stress is bad. It doesn’t just result in screaming at inopportune moments, loss of hair, or uncontrollable facial ticks. It can literally kill you, as countless medical studies have shown.  Stress and Lack of time management are true killers.

With all of this in mind, please pray through the following thoughts.

Lord move in _________ to manage their time well in these evils days, making the most of every opportunity (Eph. 5:15-17). In Jesus name, Amen.

The person who manages their time well tend to be the ones who live at peace with God and their neighbors.

Actually the MOST eventful of all the Travel Days in the History of any Short Term Ministry Trip I have ever Taken...

Travel Days are always extremely tiring.  One quote from the day’s journey is, “Not flying Delta anymore…”  Two days and two flights cancelled….In all of my years in ministry and leading trips, I can honestly say I have never been so frustratingly helpless.  I saw a movie recently where a gentleman was calm and cool under pressure because he knew that stressing out would not help anything.  I have a lot of room to grow but in the end we all made it to the destination.

Dr. Phil Sinitiere gets the MVD (Most Valuable Driver) award.  He woke up and drove us at 3:30 to the airport…Phil is speaking at the 290 Community Church Gathering tomorrow night.  Thanks Phil.

Chris Faulkner wrote a blog that goes deeper into our days events here

Another Most Valuable award goes to Chris and Jennifer Faulkner for having coffee and breakfast tacos ready at 3:30 AM.

There were a lot of firsts today for the team:

  1. Cancelled flights
  2. Coming into Newark
  3. Going through Minneapolis
  4. Riding an Uber from Airport to Hostel
  5. Going to a Yankees game

Avoiding distractions was the negative way of saying, “Stay Focused!”  As we are in NYC starting today, it is important to stay focused on Christ.  Focus comes from the daily yeses to Jesus as well as the LONG OBEDIENT yeses.

Lord I ask that you cause ________ to set their eyes on heaven where Christ is seated (Col. 3:1-4). In Jesus name, Amen.

Who do you know that is lacking focus?  They seem distracted and their eyes are darting in so many directions instead of being set on Jesus?  Their eyes are a picture of their time management, all over the page.  Pray for them (it maybe yourself).   The important thing is to try and stay in FOCUS.

Distractions abound.  Because we have limited attention if something distracts us from a simple and complete devotion to Jesus, then we will undoubtedly put our attention on something else.  The upcoming generation could be called Generation Distraction or Distracted.  There never used to be called a phenomenon called, “Distracted Driving.”  One of the ways we are distracted is by being blind to the truth.

In today’s prayer reminder, we are praying for those around us and our own lives and the lives of the NYFLO Team to have victory over distractions.

I ask you, Lord, to prevent Satan from blinding _______ to the truth. (2 Cor 4:4, 2 Tim 2:25, 26) In Jesus name. Amen.

Who do you know that seems to be blinded for some reason?  Blinded because of the poor choices they are making.  Blinded because of being consumed with their kids, sports, education, job, family, instead of Jesus?  I was  just Facebook Messaging (is that a verb?) with a person today who is worried for a family member who is really making poor choices in their life.

Sometimes we get so incredibly distracted from knowing God intimately because we have a broken conscience which leads to masks and insincerity of faith.

I don’t know how many or what percent Introverts make up the American Church.  I am guessing it may reach over 50% and probably closer to 60%.  How is it possible to reach new people?  I like what Adam McHugh, author of Introverts in the church, said:

Introverted seekers need introverted evangelists. It’s not that extroverts can’t communicate the gospel, either verbally or non-verbally, in ways that introverts find appealing, it’s that introverted seekers need to know and see that it’s possible to lead the Christian life as themselves. It’s imperative for them to understand that becoming a Christian is not tantamount with becoming an extrovert.

Today’s prayer for our ministry and your life is wrapped around the practice of making spiritual conversations normal to all of us:

Lord, make __________ heart’s desire to see people come to Christ (Rom. 10:1).  In Jesus name, Amen.

Sinclair Ferguson said it best, “We best defend the Lord’s glory by speaking first TO Him about unbelieving men rather than speaking first ABOUT Him to unbelieving men.”

“The man who mobilizes the Christian church to pray will make the greatest contribution to world evangelization in history.” Andrew Murray

It is Tuesday and we are leaving in just three days.  The word of God is so important.  No one can know God or grow in God without the word of God.  Today that is the focus of our prayer, the Word of God.

Lord, I pray that _______ hear and believe the Word of God for what it really is (I Thess 2:13).  In Jesus name. Amen.

Who do you know that is struggling to believe the word of God?  Pray for them and pray for us to encounter folks in the parks in NYC to believe the Word of God.  We are calling them People of Peace.  Who do you know that needs prayer to be actively excited to see people come to Christ (how about your desire to see people near you?)?  Pray for us as well.  We have not prepared and trained for a week long trip but for a life time of ministry for the LORD.
