Jesus knows his Bible inside and out. He understands the power of the Word of God, he used it with precision against Satan, even in a depleted physical state. I love the fact that Jesus uses the Book of Deuteronomy in his defense, which is actually an offense because he was led there to do battle with the flesh and the devil. He well knows that once His word is truly heard, it will bear fruit sooner or later. Doesn’t Isaiah say that somewhere? What is so terrible is that some of us prevent His words from bearing fruit in our present life. We live without clean hands and pure hearts so often. We make so many unwise decisions. I wonder what we will say when we finally make up our minds to be fully singular minded and focused on living the Scriptures? What will God say? One thing is certain— He will never throw our past failures back in our face. That is GRACE but I also have the sense that He doesn’t want us to stay where we are either. I get the impression that Jesus is showing us what it means to live and play on a winning team. Everyone wants to follow a winning team. Winning teams win because they are COMPELLING. I am so thankful we win in the end!
